There are numerous methods on caring for the skin.  Out of these, there are certainly the right ones and the wrong ones.  If you are looking for the right way or method, then the following information below can help you:

Building a daily skin care routine

No matter what your skin type is, a daily skin care routine can help you maintain overall skin health and improve specific concerns like acne, scarring, and dark spots. A daily skin care routine has four basic steps you can do once in the morning and once before you sleep.  These are:

  1. Cleansing: Choose a cleanser that doesn’t leave your skin tight after washing. Clean your face no more than twice a day, or just once, if you have dry skin and don’t wear makeup. Avoid washing for that squeaky-clean feeling because that means your skin’s natural oils are gone.
  2. Serums: A serum with vitamin C or growth factors or peptides would be better in the morning, under sunscreen. At night, retinol or prescription retinoids work best.
  3. Moisturizer: Even oily skin needs moisturizer, but use one that is lightweight, gel-based, and non-comedogenic, or doesn’t block your pores, like CeraVe’s facial lotion. Dry skin may benefit from more cream-based moisturizers. Most brands will label their products as gel or cream on their packaging.
  4. Sunscreen: Apply sunscreen with at least 30 SPF 15 minutes before heading outdoors, as it takes a while for sunscreen to activate. Darker skin tones actually need more sun protection because hyperpigmentation is harder to correct.

Building a daily skin care routine must become a habit.  This is the first step in caring for your skin the right way.  Proper cleaning must be done, especially before going to sleep.  Remember that sleeping time is usually around 6 to 8 hours, and at this time the skin rejuvenates itself.  It cannot fully rejuvenate if it’s filled with dirt and other harmful elements.  The use of the right serums, one at morning and one at night is the next step.  After the serum, the skin must be properly moisturized.  Water based moisturizers are perfect as a start.  Sunscreen is the first line of defense against the harmful UV rays and as such it must be applied before going out and being exposed to the sun.  Applying sunscreen with SPFs of at least 30 can help prevent damage on the first layer of the skin.

Know Your Skin

“Check your skin regularly for changing moles and other signs of possible skin cancer,” as the saying goes.  Talk to your dermatologist about what kinds of changes should concern you.

Certain skin conditions merit a visit to the dermatologist, including frequent acne, inflamed or irritated dry skin, and skin rashes and irritations that don’t go away, as these could be signs of one of the many types of dermatitis, or skin inflammation.

However, should you ever notice any other skin problems, it’s important to get medical attention to resolve them quickly and avoid putting your skin at risk.

Aside from having a daily skin routine, it’s also necessary to know your skin.  If you ask why, then the answer is simple.  Not all methods of taking care of the skin can apply to everybody.  Some may be applicable to one person but it may not be applicable to another.  Improper use of a skin care regimen can cause acne, skin irritation and even skin asthma.  In order to know your skin, a simple visit to your dermatologist is a must.
